Craft Based Design Project

The Craft Cluster, an initiative of NIFT which provides the students with an immersive experience of the crafts of India through studying and working with the artisans and craftspeople. The project which is done over two semesters consists of a field visit in which we study and do our primary research on the craft, and a second visit where we make the product range.

The first trip for the research on the craft took place during the pandemic. I mainly worked on the documentation since I wasn’t able to go on the field visit at the time.. I worked on digital illustrations of the weaving process and the print layout for the same.

For this project, I had gone to Bathinda, Punjab with 5 other classmates to study the craft of Panja Durries. The product range consists of 4 coasters, 4 table mats, 1 runner, 1 wall hanging, 2 cushion covers and a tissue box cover.
