I began by building the armature with welded metal rods and attached them to a board with nuts and bolts. I worked on the volume using newspaper, beginning with the chest and the head. The head was tough as the pieces of newspaper didn’t stay together, so I used jute rope to hold them in place. I gave the head volume, which was challenging as the shape wasn’t looking right initially. I then covered the newspaper and rope with layers of newspaper strips dipped in POP. Once the newspaper strips dried, I began putting layers of POP and tried to make the features. This was challenging as well because I wasn’t getting the proportions of the face right just by looking at the pictures.

I cut out a stencil of the profile of my face and taped it to the head and the chin. I then put layers of POP to fill in the area between the stencil and the sculpture and once the profile was done, I began giving the face volume.
