Graduation Project

The collection titled ‘Rustic Splendour’ is a ready-to-wear collection of garments and products under the Leathergoods Department. The collection consisted of raw-edge leather jackets with floor-length lining, featuring zari embroidery paired with leather appliqué work on the dresses and corsets.

I worked on my Graduation Project at Samant Chauhan (January- May 2023) following the design process from making the rough sketches in a notebook to conceptualising the final photoshoot. The collection consisted of raw-edge leather jackets with floor-length lining, featuring zari embroidery paired with leather appliqué work on the dresses and corsets. The collection, titled ‘Rustic Splendour’ has a boho-chic aesthetic, taking elements from Indian as well as Western silhouettes. It aims to cater to 20-50 year old women. The models for the shoot as well as the jury were my friends and family, shot by a friend of mine. The location was my childhood riding school, with horses that I grew up with.

The brief was to design a pret collection of 6 ensembles focusing on leather jackets, belts and bags, styled with maxi dresses, corsets and pants. Include corsets and corset belts. Include couture elements such as beadwork and embroidery with references form Azaerbaijani carpets and the brand’s 2017, Rajputana Collection.

Floral abstract motifs were derived from the embroideries used in the Rajputana Collection as well as from the Azerbaijan rugs that the tribes made. The tassels from the rugs have translated into fringes in leather which were later used in the garments as well as the bags.
